Youm-e-Tashakkur is being observed today (Friday) to pay homage to the Armed Forces and the people for their victory in Operation Bunanu-um-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq against Indian aggression.
Youm-e-Tashakkur: The day began with special prayers in mosques. People also recited the Holy Quran across the country.
Authorities marked the occasion with a thirty-one-gun salute in the Federal Capital after Fajr prayer. Provincial capitals honored the day with a twenty-one-gun salute.
Change of guard ceremonies took place at the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam in Karachi and the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore.
Officials will visit the families of martyrs from Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos to recognize their sacrifice.
The main ceremony for Youm-e-Tashakkur will take place at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will attend as chief guest. The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Chief of Army Staff will also be present.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced an extended ceasefire between Pakistan and India. The agreement came after a hotline conversation between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs).
In the Senate, the Deputy Prime Minister condemned India’s aggression. He shared that the first DGMO contact on May 10 led to a ceasefire agreement until May 12.
Later, Pakistan’s DGMO Major General Kashif Abdullah spoke with Indian DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai. They extended the ceasefire to May 14, and later to May 18.
