Sudheer, a victim in DHA assault case, on Thursday pardoned Karachi businessman, Salman Farooqi before a local court.
Salman Farooqi receives pardon from the victim in the DHA assault case, signaling a major development in the Karachi court proceedings. On Thursday, the victim, Sudheer, appeared at the South Judicial Magistrate’s Court and confirmed the identity of the accused businessman before officially forgiving him.
Sudheer appeared before the court and identified Salman Farooqi as the individual who attacked him in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area.
Despite confirming the identity of the accused, the victim told the court that he did not wish to pursue the matter further. “I have forgiven the accused,” Sudheer said, when asked by the judge whether he was facing any external pressure to drop the case.
The victim’s lawyer informed the court that Sudheer had not been aware of the court summons and only arrived after receiving a late notification. Still, he clarified that his client’s decision was voluntary and not influenced by any coercion.
The court recorded Sudheer’s statement and acknowledged that while the victim had identified the accused, he had no intention of continuing legal proceedings. The case involved a widely circulated video of Salman Farooqi physically assaulting a young motorcyclist in front of his sister, triggering widespread outrage on social media platforms.
The case was registered at Gizri Police Station, where Farooqi faced charges of issuing death threats, physical assault, and public humiliation, based on a complaint filed by eyewitness Muhammad Saleem.
This incident reignited public discourse on the need for stronger accountability measures and justice for victims of violence in high-profile cases.
