More than 50,000 people who tested positive for coronavirus in Britain have now died, official figures showed Wednesday, with another 595 fatalities recorded. Britain’s death toll now stands at 50,365, the highest in Europe, with another 22,950 testing positive for the disease over the last day, according to government data.

Since the virus caught the UK off guard, the majority of the deaths occurred in the spring.
In the initial weeks of the epidemic, the number of deaths increased dramatically, doubling every four days at one point and reaching a peak of 1,000 per day in April.
Lockdown and other measures eventually caused it to collapse. Before the virus returned, daily fatalities throughout the summertime were occasionally in the single digits.

Although far more slowly than in the spring, the number of deaths has been increasing throughout the autumn, currently doubling every two weeks or so.

The government’s death toll only includes people who passed away within 28 days following a positive test result. However, it is evident from death statistics that a higher than predicted number of people had died overall throughout the pandemic.

Almost 70,000 extra fatalities occurred up until the end of October.
Doctors who filled out the death certificates in the early days did not test for Covid, therefore many fatalities were not officially reported as such. However, some of these were determined to be connected to the disease by those doctors.
However, there were also some “indirect” deaths. This includes fatalities from other illnesses like heart disease that occurred as a result of patients not receiving the necessary care. When you examine deaths by region, you find some quite noticeable variations.
This has been caused by a multitude of causes, including population health and age as well as infection levels.
There have been more deaths among members of ethnic minority groups and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
