The country is facing eight-hour-long power outages amid the merciless ongoing heatwave as the electricity shortfall has reached 5,000 megawatt.According to power division sources on Wednesday, the electricity shortfall was touching 5,000MW following an ongoing heatwave in the country as the mercury level is touching 44 Celsius in Lahore. The sources said that 4,000MW was being generated by hydropower. Whereas thermal power plants are generating 3,000MW electricity.

It is important to note that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi declared that Tuesday’s power load shedding would be cut to 3.5 hours.
Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stated that the nation’s power consumption had surpassed 25,000MW while accompanied by federal ministers.
He emphasized that the capacity to generate power was 17,000 MW when the current government took over, and it has now expanded to more than 21,000 MW.
Prior to this, the country’s power authorities were instructed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to restrict load shedding to two hours nationwide, stating that he was looking for answers rather than just reasons.
