Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take steps to de-escalate tensions in South Asia for global and regional peace.

He highlighted that India’s aggressive actions pose a serious threat to peace in the region. He stressed that dialogue remains the only viable solution to long-standing disputes, particularly the Kashmir issue, which has remained unresolved for over seven decades.

Pakistan urges UNSC once again to acknowledge the humanitarian crisis in Indian-administered Kashmir. He condemned ongoing Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiris and reiterated the need for global attention and accountability.

Asim Iftikhar offered Pakistan’s full cooperation in any independent and neutral investigation into the recent Pahalgam incident. He also criticized India’s unilateral move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a breach of international obligations.

Outside the Security Council, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed serious concern about deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan. He described the current situation as the most dangerous escalation in years.

Guterres strongly condemned the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of at least 26 civilians. He stressed that targeting civilians is unacceptable and called for a lawful investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He further warned against military escalation, urging both nations to act with caution to avoid a wider conflict. Peaceful dialogue and mutual respect, he emphasized, are essential for regional stability.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar is expected to issue a formal press statement at the close of the session.
