Ex-RAW Chief Amarjit Singh Blames Indian Agencies for Pahalgam Attack

Amarjit Singh, the former chief of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), has blamed Indian security agencies for the Pahalgam attack and dismissed the possibility of a war between India and Pakistan.

In an interview with the BBC, Singh stated that the attack was the result of a complete security lapse. He criticized the lack of a security presence at the site, calling it unacceptable and dangerous.

“War is the last bad option,” Singh emphasized, urging both countries to avoid escalating tensions. He noted that war threats are often used to manipulate public opinion, but real peace requires ongoing efforts and dialogue.

He also highlighted that diplomatic backchannels often remain open even during crises. “Even if formal talks pause, unofficial communication continues. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, or the UAE can help restart discussions,” he said.

Ajay Sahni, a noted counter-terrorism expert, echoed Singh’s views. He criticized the Modi government, calling the Pahalgam attack a product of weak security policies and intelligence failures.

Sahni added that the government has often exaggerated events like Pulwama and Balakot for political advantage. “The administration turns tragedies into political tools. This is not responsible governance,” he said.

The criticism from both figures reflects growing concerns over India’s internal security and its foreign policy toward Pakistan. Many experts now urge a more diplomatic and less reactionary approach to regional tensions.
