Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki revealed Wednesday she has undergone surgery for a torn knee ligament which she suffered at the start of the week on the WTA tour.

Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki revealed on Wednesday that she underwent surgery to fix a ruptured knee ligament she had earlier this week while participating on the WTA circuit.

In a first-round doubles encounter in Linz on Monday, the 31-year-old German sustained a left knee injury with her British playing partner Jodie Burrage. Six points to five in the first set, she was forced to give up.

According to Lisicki, an MRI revealed she had an anterior cruciate ligament tear, which prompted surgery.

Her knee was tightly bandaged when she shared a photo of herself on crutches to Twitter, writing, “It’s going to be a very tough & long road back but I’m luckily surrounded by the best medical team!”

Marion Bartoli defeated Lisicki in the world.

She recovered from glandular illness and played tennis for just over a year before winning her first match of the season in August.

She had a career-high ranking of 12th in 2012, but setbacks due to consecutive injuries to her ankle and shoulder have occurred. Right now, she is ranked 690th in the world.
