King Charles’ Goddaughter Recalls Princess Diana & Praises the Monarch’s Thoughtfulness
London: King Charles III’s goddaughter has opened up about her cherished memories with Princess Diana and shared how the monarch has always remained deeply connected with family and friends. The heartfelt revelations came during her recent interview with Hello!.
India Hicks, granddaughter of the Earl and Countess Mountbatten of Burma and the second cousin and goddaughter of King Charles III, reflected on her long-standing bond with the royal family. She described the King as a “very considerate godfather” who always made time for personal touches — even when burdened with royal responsibilities.
“Even before taking on the big job he’s got now, he was a spectacularly busy man,” Hicks said, “but always had time to hand write a Christmas or birthday card, send a special note, or hand design a personal gift made by a jeweler. It was really touching and special.”
During the conversation, Hicks took a nostalgic turn, recalling how Charles supported her early career aspirations. “For a while I wanted to be a photographer,” she explained. “I came out of photography school quite young and inexperienced, and he wrote me and asked if I would like to be the photographer for his Christmas card one year.”
“So, I went to Highgrove and photographed him, Diana, and the boys, which was quite nerve-racking,” she admitted. “Firstly, what a risk — I could have been a complete idiot with a camera. And secondly, just how nice and thoughtful of him.”
Admiration for the King’s Vision
Before wrapping up, Hicks praised King Charles III for his leadership and foresight, particularly in environmental causes. “It’s incredible what he has created, and the vision he has. We use the words green and sustainable daily now and he was so ahead of the curve on that,” she noted.
“I always think that, however the world moves, or whatever we think of monarchy, no one can deny that we have an extraordinary man on our throne who has set such an example.”
Legacy of Kindness
India Hicks’ reflections not only underline the monarch’s personal grace and loyalty but also offer rare insight into his supportive nature — as a godfather, a family man, and a forward-thinking leader. Her words reinforce the growing admiration for the King’s quiet, yet impactful, influence.
