Iran strikes back at Israel after wave of attacks on nuclear facilities
Iran strikes back at Israel early Saturday by launching a barrage of missiles. This came after Israel’s most extensive air offensive against Iranian nuclear and military targets. Sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, sending civilians into shelters. Israeli forces confirmed their defense systems intercepted several incoming missiles.
Israeli media and the Associated Press reported two deaths and nearly 40 injuries. “Dozens of missiles have been launched at the State of Israel. Some were intercepted,” said a military spokesperson.
In Tehran, explosions echoed across the capital, according to the Tasnim news agency. Fars reported two missile hits at Mehrabad Airport. The airport houses an air force base used by fighter jets and transport aircraft. Fires broke out near key government sites after the blasts.
Witnesses said more missiles hit Tel Aviv just before dawn. Earlier, 34 people sustained injuries in the city. One person later died. These attacks came after Israel’s Friday strike on Iran’s nuclear plants and ballistic missile factories. Israeli forces also targeted military commanders.
U.S. Military Helps Intercept Iranian Missiles
ایک Al Jazeera News Network reported that the U.S. helped intercept some Iranian missiles. American officials, requesting anonymity, didn’t clarify if jets or ships were involved.
Explosions hit Iran’s Natanz uranium site as Israel declared a state of emergency. Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the nation. “We are at a decisive moment,” he said. He announced Operation Rising Lion, aiming to neutralize Iran’s nuclear threat through extended military action.
Israeli intelligence claimed Iran has enough enriched uranium to produce 15 nuclear bombs within days. Mossad carried out sabotage missions, damaging missile sites and air defense systems. These actions coincided with airstrikes across Iranian territory.
Regional Impact and Retaliation Warnings
Ben Gurion Airport remains closed. Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of more drone and missile attacks. “Following Israel’s preemptive strike, we expect retaliation targeting civilians,” he said.
Iran strikes back at Israel not just with missiles, but also diplomatically. Tehran condemned U.S. involvement. “Dialogue is meaningless if America supports these attacks,” said Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. He criticized Washington’s dual role in negotiation and military alliance.
This conflict destabilizes the region further. Talks between Iran and the U.S. are likely off the table. Both sides appear to prepare for prolonged escalation.
