Top men’s seed Novak Djokovic advanced to the final of the Italian Open for the 10th time on Sunday with a straight-sets win over Casper Ruud. The top-seeded player in the world advanced to the clay-court competition final after winning 7-5 and 6-3. On Sunday, Djokovic, who is presently tied with Rafael Nadal at 35, will attempt to win a record-tying 36th Masters championship. Nadal lost in the quarterfinals. The 33-year-old will next face either the eighth-seeded Diego Schwartzman of Argentina or the 12th-seeded Denis Shapovalov of Canada. In the warm-up match on Saturday before the French Open at Roland Garros, Schwartzman  stunned two-time reigning champion and nine-time Rome winner Rafael Nadal. In his first encounter with 34th-ranked Ruud, Djokovic was pushed, but to the joy of the crowd, he was able to tighten up at crucial points throughout a close match. On Sunday, for the first time, a maximum.

I’m going to rock and roll when I play in Belgrade and head to Paris.

After winning ten or more titles at a single event in Roland Garros (13), Barcelona (12), and Monte Carlo (11), Nadal has now done it four times.

On May 30, the French Open will begin in Paris, where Rafael Nadal will be vying for a record 21st Grand Slam victory.

The 2016 Roland Garros champion Djokovic will be aiming to make history by being the first man to win all four majors more than once in more than 50 years.
