Big win for PTI reserved seats cases as Supreme Court rules

  1.  Reserved Seats

On Friday, the Supreme Court declared the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party eligible for seats reserved for women and minorities. The court judges had reserved its decision on a set of appeals move by the pti-backed Sunni Ittehad council. PTI and SIC had filed a petition demanding 77 seats for women and minorities.  Peshawar High Court and the Election Commission of Pakistan declare it ineligible for the reserved seats. Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the SC hear an appeal to the SIC in April.  The SIC decision to reject the PHC of judgment and election commission of Pakistan seats reserved for women and minorities. PTI won the reserve seats in the general election but the government’s decision was not right for reserve seats.  The SC had also requested placing the current petitions before the three-judge panel.

3. Election Commission of Pakistan

The ECP stopped success notifications on 77 members of the national and provincial assemblies elected on those seats after the election.  In Friday’s decision, the PHC and ECP decision null and void, terming it ” against the constitution of Pakistan”.

   3. Judge’s Decision

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah explained the decision, which was made by a majority of eight judges.  The eight judges delivered the decision to the reserved seats. The eight judges said, “From the reserved seats, the PTI is a big party in Pakistan.”  Judge Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Mazhar, Justice Minallah, Justice Syed Rizvi, Justice Malik, Justice Waheed, Justice Saadat, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan make up the entire bench, which is presided over by justice Isa.

4. Seats Parties 

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) each received one reserved seat in Punjab, while the PML-N received 23 and the PPP earned two.
