In the meantime, sources said that the Punjab Food Department has sent a summary of the government’s decision to increase grain grinding rates from Rs400 to Rs600 per 100kg to the provincial cabinet for approval.

The chairman of PFMA Punjab, Tahir Hanif Malik, said in a statement released on Tuesday that the increase was inevitable due to growing expenses for wheat transportation, grinding fees, the cost of packing materials, and manufacturing costs brought on by increased electricity bills. Even if the price of grinding was fixed during Ramadan last year, he said that since then, the price of gasoline, energy, and packing materials has increased on a regular basis.

When reached, Food Punjab Director Dr. Omer Jahangir said that upon receiving a request from the flour millers, they would look into the matter. He said that a precise method for raising grinding fees has been developed by the cabinet committee.
