The PM Media Wing released a news release stating that the meeting’s objective was to evaluate the progress of both recently launched and continuing projects.
Cadastral mapping will help create a database with “authentic” land records, the Prime Minister said after receiving a briefing from Pakistan’s Surveyor General, Maj Gen Shahid Pervez. He went on to add that it would help to clearly define property boundaries, preventing unwanted encroachments.
The prime minister added that actual databases will contribute to higher land revenue. “Wherever green vegetation areas are being converted to urban projects, land-use changes need to be checked,” said the speaker.
The administrations of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and all provinces were encouraged by Prime Minister Imran to move quickly to pass laws that would block land-use changes. He said that in order to guarantee food security and take into account environmental factors, green spaces and agricultural fields must be preserved. He did, however, clarify that construction projects will be permitted with restrictions.
The NCC was briefed by officials that, as of phase I of the mapping effort, 96% of state lands in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 50% in Balochistan, and 90% in Punjab had been fully digitized.
