With 204 new dengue cases reported across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or KP on Sunday, the total number of such cases exceeded 2,660 while Peshawar led in the number of new patients with 99 confirmed cases in the city.
The total number of dengue patients in hospitals across Peshawar hit 765.

Other cities and towns reported new dengue cases too, with 18 reported from Mardan, 16 in Nowshera and 15 each in Swabi and Haripur. As many as 3,975 cases of the mosquito-borne disease have been reported in Punjab this season, out of which 3,145 surfaced in Lahore, the health secretary said.

On Sunday, a 26-year-old man died of dengue hemorrhagic fever at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital. The medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital said the man suffering from the mosquito-borne disease was brought to the medical facility in critical condition.

They feared a recurrence of the events of 2017, when hospitals admitted 60,000 suspicious patients and 11,000 of them confirmed positive for dengue.

The WHO had warned of a more serious epidemic of the disease in the future in the event that preventive measures were not taken, but the officials stated that no deaths from dengue fever had been reported in 2018 or 2019.

They claimed that this year had seen four dengue-related deaths.

The officials stated that since dengue was self-limiting and had no known cure, the primary objective of the approach was to eradicate mosquitoes.
