Karachi: The Sindh government on Saturday announced to reopen primary schools from June 21 (Monday) as COVID-19 cases decline in the province.
According to details, the decision to resume classes for primary grades was taken during a meeting of Sindh’s task force on Covid-19.The meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, also decided to reopen shrines, amusement parks and indoor gymnasiums from June 28.The forum was also appraised on the current COVID-19 positivity ratio in the province, which hovers around 3.9pc. However, the positivity ratio in Karachi is still around 8.08pc and 4.3pc in Hyderabad.The committee was also briefed o the shortage of vaccine across the country, which has gotten serious in the last few days.The chief minister was briefed that the COVID-19 positivity ratio is coming down in the province and the current rate is 3.9%. However, it was shared with concern that the situation in Karachi (8.8%) and Hyderabad (4.3%) is still not good.
“The situation will continue to improve when people follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” CM Murad said.On the other hand, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 947,218 on Saturday after 991 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.According to the government’s COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 21,940 with 27 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours, the lowest daily toll in almost three months.Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 889,787 after another 1,282 virus recoveries were reported.
