President Arif Alvi signed the summary sent by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after which the National Assembly was dissolved.
According to the President’s House, on the advice of the Prime Minister, the President dissolved the National Assembly under Article 58 (1). With the dissolution of the National Assembly, the federal cabinet was also dissolved.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had signed the dissolution of the National Assembly some time ago and sent the summary to President Mamluk Arif Alvi. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said that he would send a summary to the President to dissolve the National Assembly by tonight.
According to the constitution, elections must be held within 90 days after the dissolution of the assembly. Shahbaz Sharif will remain in office until the caretaker prime minister is appointed.
For caretaker prime minister, there can be a consultation between the prime minister and the opposition leader for 3 days. There is a total period of 8 days for nomination of Caretaker Prime Minister.
If there is no agreement between the Prime Minister and the opposition leader, a parliamentary committee will be formed. If the parliamentary committee does not agree on the name of caretaker prime minister, the matter will go to the Election Commission.
