According to details, the MQM-P delegation held a meeting with GDA leaders to get their support for the slot of opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.During the meeting, the MQM-P delegation requested GDA to support its candidate for Sindh opposition leader slot which was declined by the GDA leadership.
“We have supported your candidate in Senate elections, now it’s our turn to appoint opposition leader in Sindh,” the GDA leader reportedly told the MQM-Pakistan delegation.
Currently, the seat of the opposition leader is being held by PTI’s Haleem Adil Sheikh, while in the current defections of the MPAs, PTI has lost 10 out of its 30 seats in the provincial assembly.
Dr. Safdar Abbassi of the GDA commended the MQM-P for its “positive gestures” and pledged that the recent agreement between the two parties will lead to a durable political partnership.
“We successfully completed the process of consensual opposition leader,” he said, referring to the election of MQM-P MP Rana Ansar as the Leader of Opposition in the recently disbanded Sindh Assembly.
In addition, he requested a cooperative political plan from the MQM-P to address the current decline in peace and order in Sindh’s rural districts, where demonstrations over the past few days have been taking place in response to the kidnapping of several Hindu members of the minority population by bandits in riverine areas.
