Several shots were fired at the Saudi embassy in the Dutch city of The Hague but no one was hurt, police said on Thursday. “Just before 6am (0500 GMT) we received a message that a shot had been fired at a building in The Hague.

According to the Dutch foreign ministry, the shooting is being taken “very seriously.” “We learned that shots had been fired at the Saudi Arabian embassy building in The Hague at approximately six in the morning (0500 GMT). “There were no injuries,” the Hague police tweeted. The event happened the day after a bombing in the Saudi city of Jeddah, which disrupted a World War I commemoration attended by foreign diplomats. Several gunshots were heard near the Saudi embassy.

There were still numerous bullet holes visible in the glass, according to an AFP reporter. The building’s entrance was first blocked off by police with tape, and subsequently steel gates were installed.

According to authorities, bullet casings were discovered at the location, as reported by the Dutch news agency ANP.

An “investigation was in progress,” according to police spokesperson Steven van Santen.

“A criminal investigation is in progress. Van Santen told AFP that “this concerns traces on the bullet holes and the bullets.”

The incident was reported to security authorities as soon as it happened by embassy security officials “The Saudi embassy stated in an Arabic tweet.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemned this heinous attack, and welcomes the Dutch institutions for their rapid response.”

Speaking on behalf of the ministry, the Dutch Foreign Ministry stated that it “takes this seriously and is in close proximity with the Saudi authorities.”
