Pakistan’s prolific all-rounder Shahid Afridi spoke highly of Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi for his heroics with the bat against Peshawar Zalmi in their PSL 7 encounter on Monday.
His side required 24 runs off the last over. He belted three sixes and a boundary to tie the fixture and take the match into super over.
The former Pakistan captain, in a post, shared a picture of him and the fast-bowler in a similar pose. He changed the PCB Chairman and then-commentator Ramiz Raja’s line “Shahid Afridi…you beauty” to “Shaheen Shah Afridi…you beauty.”
Afridi was thought to have played a significant role in Shaheen’s selection as India’s T20 skipper following the team’s triumph in the ODI World Cup last year. Babar Azam was removed as the captain of the white-ball team after Pakistan was unable to go past the league stages. The skipper then tendered his resignation in red-ball format.
Afridi supported the hiring of a foreign coach as well, but he suggested that the coach be well-known and experienced, similar to Andy Flower.
To help our people progress and develop their abilities, I believe that Pakistanis should be in charge of any foreign coach’s coaching staff,” he said.
When asked if it would have been better to assess Muhammad Amir and Imad Wasim’s fitness before to their participation in the national training camp, Afridi had that opinion.
However, he assured them that they would become supermen if they made it through the two-week training camp in Kakul.
Following his retirement in 2020, Amir has also supported Shaheen’s selection as T20 captain.
