LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) junior selection committee has announced the 17-men squad for the upcoming World Cup. Which will take place in the West Indies in January-February 2022.

Qasim Akram, an all-rounder, has been named captain of Pakistan’s U19 squad for the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies in January-February 2022. Qasim will also captain the same team in the U19 Asia Cup, which will be held later this month in the UAE.

The roster includes two traveling reserves who will travel with the teams for both events in addition to the final 15 players for each tournament.

Pakistan finished third at the U19 World Cup that was held in South Africa in January and February of 2020, where four players of the team participated.

Qasim, Irfan Khan Niazi, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Mohammad Shehzad, and opener Abdul Wahid Bangalzai were the four players who competed in the South Africa event.

“Because there is such a large pool of talent available, selecting U19 squads is always one of the most difficult and challenging tasks,” junior selection committee chairman Saleem Jaffer said. The selection procedure was the same as previously, but we tried to select the best players to help Pakistan win the World Cup. I promise that because the PCB has a solid plan for pathways cricket, all young cricket players who were not selected this time will have another chance in the future. I’d like to extend my congratulations to the men who were selected for the UAE and West Indies teams. I still maintain my belief that this side is able and willing to
