The statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday morning showed that Pakistan has registered 11 more deaths and 561 infections from the coronavirus pandemic during the last 24 hours (Tuesday). As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 11 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 28,477 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,274,578 after adding the fresh 561 cases.During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), a total of 43,914 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 1.27 percent. The number of patients in critical care was 1,313.During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), as many as 544 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,223,531. As of Wednesday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 22,570.

More than five million dead – The coronavirus has killed at least 5,003,717 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP on Tuesday. The US has suffered the most Covid-related deaths with 747,033, followed by Brazil with 607,922, India with 458,880, Mexico with 288,464 and Russia with 240,871.Taking into account excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, the WHO estimates the overall death toll could be two to three times higher.
