Pakistan Delegation to Visit U.S. for Trade Talks: Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a Pakistan delegation will visit the United States next week for trade discussions, as part of ongoing efforts to address tariff concerns and strengthen bilateral economic ties. This marks a significant move as the Pakistan delegation to visit Washington aims to resolve issues around new U.S. tariffs.

Currently, Pakistan’s exports to the United States may incur tariffs as high as 29%. These were introduced last month due to Pakistan’s $3 billion trade surplus with the U.S., as Washington imposed similar duties on several countries.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump stated, “We’re engaging with India and Pakistan. Instead of conflict, we’re focusing on trade to avoid potential war. It’s a significant achievement few talk about. The two nations were on the brink of serious confrontation, but things have calmed now.”

He added, “Pakistani representatives are arriving next week. At the same time, we’re making progress on a deal with India.” Trump emphasized that he wouldn’t pursue trade agreements with nations involved in active conflict.

Earlier this month, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated into four days of the worst military exchanges in decades, involving drones, missiles, and airstrikes.

India’s Trade Minister Piyush Goyal recently traveled to Washington to advance trade discussions. The two nations are working toward securing a provisional agreement by early July. At present, Indian exports to the U.S. face a 26% tariff.

According to a Reuters report, India may soon open over $50 billion worth of federal contracts to U.S. companies as part of its trade deal discussions.
