Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that Pakistan fully supports Iran’s right to have a civilian nuclear program, assuring that Islamabad will work with Tehran on all issues of mutual concern, a state-run news agency, APP, reported.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that Pakistan backs Iran in its pursuit of a civilian nuclear program. Speaking during his official visit to Tehran, he assured that Islamabad will collaborate with Iran on all matters of mutual interest, as reported by APP.
PM Shehbaz held a detailed meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During a joint press conference, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the fruitful discussions, which covered shared interests and bilateral cooperation.
Expanding Bilateral Ties
The two countries discussed enhancing ties in politics, economy, and international cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to implement existing agreements and deepen their partnership.
Willingness for Peace with India
PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace. He credited the armed forces and citizens for their role in overcoming past tensions with India. He expressed readiness to engage in dialogue on issues like Kashmir, water disputes, trade, and counterterrorism—provided India is serious about peaceful resolution.
“If they accept our offer, we want to talk for the sake of peace,” he emphasized.
Boosting Trade Between Pakistan and Iran
Both nations agreed to strengthen trade and investment ties. PM Shehbaz described the relationship as rooted in shared culture and history. “We’ve decided to transform these ties into meaningful cooperation,” he noted.
He appreciated the Iranian leadership’s concern over regional issues and their continued support during recent tensions in South Asia.
Solidarity on Palestine
PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s support for the people of Palestine. He condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and urged the global community to push for a lasting ceasefire. “Pakistan backs Iran in its consistent stance on Palestine,” he said.
Iran’s Position on Regional Peace
President Pezeshkian welcomed the Pakistani delegation and emphasized the importance of strong relations between neighboring countries. He stressed cooperation for border security and combating terrorism.
He noted Iran’s support for the Pakistan-India ceasefire and called for continued dialogue to ensure regional stability.
Both leaders reaffirmed shared positions on key Islamic world issues, particularly the situation in Palestine, and expressed a united stand in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Warm Welcome for PM Shehbaz
PM Shehbaz was warmly received with a guard of honor at Saadabad Palace. National anthems of both countries were played. Delegates from both sides were introduced before the official meetings commenced.
