Orange Train yet to hit tracks but increase in fare proposed

The Punjab Transport Department has moved a summary allowing an increase of Rs10 in the fare of Orange Line Metro Train, reported City42 TV channel on Sunday. The fare of the Orange Line Train which was earlier fixed at Rs40 will now surge to Rs50 after the approval of the Transport Department’s summary by the provincial cabinet. Quoting sources, the TV channel reported that the step was taken on the recommendation of the lawmakers floated during the Punjab Assembly session. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar had approved fixing the train fare at Rs40. The Orange Line Train is likely to hit the tracks late next month. It may be mentioned here that the power tussle between LTC chairman, vice-chairman and CEO Lahore Transport Company has escalated and CEO Maryam Khawar has moved an application against the vice-chairman for harassment. As they say the grass is trampled in elephants fight, so is the case here as the company is suffering due to bigwigs’ infighting.

According to a report on Sunday by City42 TV, the Punjab Transport Department has submitted a summary authorizing a rise of Rs10 in the fare of the Orange Line Metro Train.

The provincial cabinet has approved the Transport Department’s summary, resulting in an increase in the Orange Line Train fare from Rs40 to Rs50.

According to the TV broadcaster, which cited sources, the action was conducted in response to a recommendation made by members during the Punjab Assembly session.

Sardar Usman Buzdar, the chief minister of Punjab, had already approved setting the rail fare at Rs 40.

Most likely, the Orange Line Train will begin service late in the following month.
