Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans by 25 runs in the last playoff match of the season to reach the final of the fifth edition of the (PSL) Pakistan Super League on Sunday evening. Congratulation to the Lahore Qalandars and my sympathies to the Multan Sultans, who lost a hard-fought, nail-biting match that was decided on the very last second! With a brilliant start, Shaheen Afridi’s counterattacking strategy produced 44 runs in just 15 deliveries. It was a classic captain knock, limiting Qalandars to a par total on this particular track. Both Mirza Baig and Fakhar Zaman received starts, but as soon as they attempted to get away, Usama Mir and Ihsanullah, who wasn’t playing as aggressively as usual tonight, removed them from the game.On the big night, Abdullah Shafique played a gem of an innings, adding 65 runs. Multan Sultans then stormed back into the match, taking out Sikandar Raza, Ahsan Hafeez, and Sam Billings in single figures. The loss of these wickets in short succession hampered Qalandars’ development, but Shaheen Afridi’s performance was truly amazing and gave the team new life. The captain was the driving force behind the championship victory! When it counted, Zaman choked Sultans with courage, valor, skill, and poise. Qalandars also have excellent ground fielding and catching skills. The bowler Rilee Rossouw’s wicket, which came when he tried to pull one away off the bacfkoot as Rashid fluttered him with his guile and spin, was a major turning point. Shaheen’s first spell was not menacing, but he made up for it in the second spell and took the crucial scalps of Pollard, Tim David, Anwar Ali, and Usama Mir.
