Biden Tops Trump in Google Searches: Presidential Race Update

UK World

As the Election Day countdown begins, with more than 94 million ballots already cast and US President Donald Trump still leading the polls through key swing states, internet searches about the presidential candidates have peaked across all states.

According to Google Trends, 49% of the candidate searches were related to Joe Biden.

On the other hand, about 45% of the searches were about Donald Trump. Some 5% of the searches included Jo Jorgensen of the Libertarian Party, while only 1% of the searches included Green Party’s Howie Hawkins.

Americans also searched about different political issues that developed over the last weeks, with “unemployment” being the most-searched keyword across the country, followed by “Supreme Court of the United States,” “healthcare”, and “wages,” among others.

Breaking his own record set in 2020, Joe Biden will be the oldest major-party presidential candidate ever at the age of 81. At the age of 30, Mr. Biden was elected to the Senate, where he served for more than thirty years. He served as Barack Obama’s vice president and attempted unsuccessful presidential runs in 1988 and 2008. Despite having a reputation as a centrist Democrat, he has supported unions and state expansion while in government. In addition, he oversaw the formation of an international alliance to defend Ukraine from Russian invasion. Many voters believe the job may finish him, even though he vows to “finish the job” if re-elected.

Following his equally astonishing tenure as America’s 45th president, which came to an end soon after his supporters mounted an armed attack on the Capitol, comes Donald Trump’s unprecedented campaign. Two criminal indictments in federal court and Georgia state court were the consequence of his alleged involvement in initiating the attack and a larger attempt to void the results of the 2020 election. He is charged with 91 felonies in total, including two more. The 78-year-old refutes any misconduct. The self-described billionaire, Mr. Trump, gained (and lost) a significant portion of his wealth in real estate before rising to fame on reality television. This time, his campaign mixes new grievances (against the attorneys pursuing his cases and the judges presiding over them) with well-known culture-war concerns (constructing a border wall, “left-wing gender insanity”).
