KARACHI: England’s pacer James Anderson revealed that he learned bowling wobble seam delivery after watching Mohammad Asif of Pakistan in 2010. Speaking to 7 Cricket, Anderson responded to a query about his command on wobble seam delivery.
“It was before the 2010/11 Ashes, David Saker was our bowling coach. He said Kookaburra doesn’t swing for the huge amount of time, so something else in the locker as a bowler was crucial here in Australia for success,” Anderson shared.It must be noted here that Asif was one of the best swing bowlers of his time. He represented Pakistan in 23 Tests, 38 ODIs and 11 T20Is, bagging 165 wickets.
“In summer 2010, we played against Pakistan and Mohammad Asif was bowling this ball which just wobbled a little bit, it was not seaming nor swinging, he was just trying to nip off the seam,“So I spent the whole summer practising that and working on it and was comfortable to bowl here [in Australia] which actually brought success for me throughout that series,” he revealed.
He stated, “I worked on that and practised it all summer long, so I felt comfortable bowling here [in Australia], which really helped me throughout that series.”
It is important to note that Asif was one of the best swing bowlers of his era. While representing Pakistan in 23 Tests, 38 ODIs, and 11 T20Is, he claimed 165 wickets.
