Hundreds Protest in Pakistan Over India’s Threats and Treaty Suspension
Islamabad: Hundreds protest in Pakistan as outrage spreads over India’s recent threats, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. Demonstrators rallied in major cities, especially in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), following the deadly attack on tourists across the contested border.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed retaliation after 26 civilians were killed in Pahalgam, accusing Pakistan of supporting “cross-border terrorism”. The attack in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) was the deadliest in 25 years, with civilians targeted instead of Indian forces.
“If India wants to go to war, then come forward openly,” said businessman Ajmal Baloch at a protest in Lahore. The demonstration, organized by a religious party, drew around 700 participants near the main India-Pakistan border crossing.
India’s threats include suspending the Indus Water Treaty and revoking SAARC visa exemptions. While India lacks direct control over downstream river flow, the statement has triggered nationwide anger in Pakistan.
Hundreds Protest in Pakistan Against Indian Aggression
Protesters, including young citizens, condemned India’s threats as “unacceptable”. “Water is our right, and we’ll reclaim it, even through war,” declared Muhammad Owais, a 25-year-old protester.
In Muzaffarabad, over 300 people marched with placards denouncing Indian aggression. PPP’s Shoukat Javed Mir stated, “If India attacks, Pakistani Kashmiris will be on the frontline. We are ready to die for our country.”
Nationwide Protests Highlight Indus Treaty Concerns
In Quetta, around 150 people gathered peacefully. Many voiced concern over the potential water crisis if India undermines the treaty. The protests reflected a united national sentiment to defend sovereignty and regional peace. Similar gatherings were reported in Karachi and Islamabad, emphasizing a growing public demand for strong diplomatic action.
