DG ISI Asim Munir Deposed: Faisal Vawda’s Revelation

Local

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda, who was once a close aide of the Imran Khan, recently confirmed the allegations that the former prime minister had removed Gen Asim Munir from his post as Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in 2018 for acting honestly and in the interest of the country.

These allegations were recently levelled by UK-based newspaper The Telegraph and seconded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif; however, Khan has denied these allegations, without disclosing the actual reason for the fallout.

Speaking on Geo News’ programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Saath”, Vawda disclosed that during his brief stint as the DG ISI, the current COAS had approached the PTI chief with evidence of his wife’s — former first lady Bushra Bibi — corruption.

“That is when Imran Khan sacked the then Gen Asim Munir,” he said, adding that he had warned the then-three-star general that if he took the evidence to Khan, “it will be your casualty”.When asked to provide the identity of those involved in illegal activity, Vawda replied that he would not do so right away. He did reveal, though, that “someone’s children” and an ex-nationwide woman were involved.
