FLOUR PRICE INCREASES BY 50 RUPEES PER BAG

LAHORE: Flour millers on Tuesday jacked up the price of a 20 kilogramme flour bag by Rs50 following the recent hike in rates of petroleum products and electricit.

According to the Flour Mills Association, a 20kg bag will now cost Rs1,150. It said flour price was hiked due to the recent hike in prices of petrol and diesel, as well as electricity.

They said the government has decided to push up grinding rates from Rs400 to Rs600 per 100kg.

The chairman of PFMA Punjab, Tahir Hanif Malik, said in a statement released on Tuesday that the increase was inevitable due to growing expenses for wheat transportation, grinding fees, the cost of packing materials, and manufacturing costs brought on by increased electricity bills. Even if the price of grinding was fixed during Ramadan last year, he said that since then, the price of gasoline, energy, and packing materials has increased on a regular basis.

When reached, Food Punjab Director Dr. Omer Jahangir said that upon receiving a request from the flour millers, they would look into the matter. He said that a precise method for raising grinding fees has been developed by the cabinet committee.
