An accountability court on Tuesday accepted Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Hamza Shahbaz’s plea to excuse him for skipping today’s hearing of the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.
In hearing the Ramzan Sugar Mill reference against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son, former Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz, the Accountability Court in Lahore on Friday granted Hamza’s request for a one-day attendance waiver.
The records state that after Judge Nadeem Gulzar of the Accountability Court heard the reference, Anwar Hussain, Shehbaz Sharif’s attorney, entered the courtroom and concluded the attendance.
It was stated in the application that Hamza Shehbaz is physically ill and is unable to present.
Afterwards, the court granted Hamza Shehbaz’s plea and postponed the hearing to June 6.
Recall that on February 14, the Accountability Court of Lahore postponed the hearing on the Ramzan Sugar Mill reference against Prime Minister and President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz.
Notably, on February 18, 2019, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reopened the Ramzan Sugar Mills case with a new reference against Hamza and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Just the two accused were mentioned in this citation, and it was claimed that they had built an illegal drain for Ramzan Sugar Mills.
According to the court reference, Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz lost 213 million rupees to the national exchequer during the construction of this canal; as a result, both accused parties ought to face consequences.
