The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has announced reducing one subject each for the matric and ninth classes.
The board’s spokesperson said that for the session 2024-26, only ninth-standard students will take Islamic Studies exams, while matric students will appear for the Pakistan Studies examination.
The spokesperson added that the marks for Islamic Studies have been increased from 50 to 100, while the same applies to Pakistan Studies.
The official said that since the marks have been moved up, the Punjab Textbook Board has been asked to print books in line with the development.
Moreover, the BISE Lahore has also announced that the Punjab Matric Exams for 2024 will begin on March 1.
It is anticipated that fewer subjects will relieve students of undue academic pressure, enabling them to focus more intently on grasping key concepts and enhancing their performance as a whole.
Schools and other institutions must adapt their teaching methods and curriculum design to meet the new BISE Lahore regulations.
Regarding the judgment as a positive step toward student welfare and educational reform, parents, educators, and other education stakeholders have applauded it.
In order to maintain academic standards and prepare students for further study, it is crucial to ensure that all relevant knowledge and skills are taught, even in cases when fewer disciplines are given.
