Babar Azam Wednesday celebrated his rise to ODI number one ranking with a record-breaking fashion as he hit a record ton in Pakistan’s record chase against South Africa in the third T20.

In the most recent match in Lahore, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam broke the record for the most fours in Men’s T20I history with an incredible 69 off 44 balls against the Black Caps.

Babar passed Ireland’s Paul Stirling and added another boundary, his fifth of the innings, to take the lead on the record with 409 fours.

Babar achieved this astonishingly quickly—in just 107 innings—beating Stirling’s previous record of 407 fours in 136 innings. It’s interesting to note that in Men’s T20Is history, Babar and Stirling are the only two players to reach the coveted 400-four mark.

On a difficult Lahore surface, Pakistan amassed a daunting total of 178/5 thanks to Babar’s outstanding performance. The T20I series ended in a 2-2 deadlock, however despite a heroic effort by the New Zealand team, they were defeated by a mere 9 runs in an exciting match.

Shaheen Afridi’s outstanding performance with the ball in the second innings was the decisive element that turned the tide of the match in Pakistan’s favor. His effect was immediately noticed as he removed Tom Blundell with a strike in the opening over, forcing New Zealand to bat on the defensive.

“Long after the PSL, our squad also played together. We can still get better at fielding, bowling, and hitting. The New Zealand team was quite successful at milking singles and doubles despite not scoring many boundaries.
