DHAKA: Babar Azam and Azhar Ali put on a century stand in a rain interrupted play on Day 2 of the second Test against Bangladesh. Babar and Azhar, put on an undefeated 118-run partnership before rain forced the second day to be called off with just six overs being bowled.
Day two saw Pakistan make 27 runs in the 6.2 overs bowled, with Azhar Ali scoring his 34th half-century in a Test match. Pakistan had not lost since the first session.
The day’s first delivery was leg-side delivered by Khaled Ahmed, and undefeated at seventy-one, Babar Azam tucked it for four. Before striking two fours off Ebadot Hossain to reach fifty runs off 126 balls, Azhar swiftly passed the century mark. With 118 runs between them so far, the third-wicket stand has held firm.
Rain forced day two to conclude at 1:20 pm, exactly 30 minutes after play began. Rain started about half an hour before play was scheduled to start, and it continued throughout the day in varying degrees of intensity. Anyway, the second day started a little later than the first. Five minutes before play was supposed to start, the umpires announced at 11:20 a.m. that the rain had returned, forcing the players back into the dressing room.
The weather confirmed the earlier prediction that it would rain on Sunday, and it appears that it will continue into the third and fourth days. This is as a result of the deep depression that the cyclone Jawad made in the west central Bay of Bengal.
