General Asim Munir Honored with Historic Promotion to Field Marshal

The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the promotion of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal.

The decision of Army Chief Asim Munir elevated to field marshal rank was taken the federal cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Sources said the prime minister met President Asif Ali Zardari after the session. He briefed the president to ensure full confidence and coordination on the decision.

The cabinet also unanimously decided to extend the tenure of the Air Chief Marshal.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir thanked Allah Almighty for the prestigious honor. In his message, he dedicated the title to the nation, the armed forces, and especially to the martyrs and veterans.

“I thank the President, the Prime Minister, and the Cabinet for their trust,” said Field Marshal Munir. He added that the title is a trust from the nation and said, “Millions of Asims are ready to sacrifice to uphold it.”

He further noted, “This is not a personal honor but recognition for the entire Pakistan Armed Forces and the nation.” He expressed gratitude to the people for their constant support.
