Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team Secures Spot in 2025 World Cup After Beating Thailand

Lahore: The Pakistan women’s cricket team has officially booked its place in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The team defeated Thailand by 87 runs in the 12th match of the ongoing World Cup Qualifier. This victory not only strengthened their position in the tournament but also marked their fourth consecutive win.

After winning the toss, captain Fatima Sana chose to bat first. As a result, Pakistan got off to a solid start. Sidra Amin anchored the innings with a composed 80-run performance. Meanwhile, Fatima Sana added valuable runs with a commanding 62-run knock. Together, they guided Pakistan to a competitive total of 205/6 in 50 overs.

Thailand struggled right from the beginning of their chase. Pakistan’s bowlers maintained excellent line and length, applying pressure from both ends. Rameen Shamim, Nashra Sandhu, and Fatima Sana each took three wickets. Moreover, Sadia Iqbal also made an impact with one dismissal. As a result, Thailand’s batting lineup collapsed for just 118 runs.

Four Consecutive Wins

With this win, Pakistan remained unbeaten in the qualifier. Earlier, the team had recorded impressive victories against:

  • Ireland – by 38 runs
  • Scotland – by six wickets
  • West Indies – by 65 runs

Therefore, Pakistan became the first team to qualify for the World Cup 2025, which will take place in India later this year. Although one match remains — against Bangladesh on April 19 — their qualification is already confirmed.

Tournament Format and Host Venues

The qualifier includes six teams: Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, and the West Indies. The event follows a round-robin format where each team plays every other team once. Furthermore, all matches are being held in Lahore, at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA Ground.

This historic qualification highlights the growing strength of Pakistan’s women’s cricket. Not only have they delivered consistent performances, but they have also inspired a new generation of athletes. Undoubtedly, fans are excited to watch them compete in the World Cup later this year.
