1. PM Narendra Modi
PM travel to Russia for a meeting with Putin on the economy and the situation in Ukraine. Talks will focus on energy, trade, and Indian resettlement.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his inaugral visit to Russia since being returned in the election. India is going to concentrate on both the Ukrainian issue and the economy.
Their most recent meeting was in September 2022, when they met in Uzbekistan during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. This time, it was months after Russia had invaded Ukraine-the meeting took place at a time when Western sanctions had weighed on relations between Moscow and New Delhi.
2. PM Putin
Modi Ýnformed Putin not to fight a war with Ukraine this time because no-one was fighting against any country. First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov greeted Modi at Vnukovo-II VIP Airport in Moscow and offered him a tri-services guard of honour. Manturov outranks the deputy prime minister who received Chinese President Xi Jinping.
3. Putin sent Modi a special invitation
On Monday night, Putin sent Modi a private invitation to have dinner with him at his dacha, or large country home, in the Novo-Ogaryovo district. This is obviously one of the few occasions that Russian leaders have entertained with such fussiness. Putin is hosting the 22nd India-Russia Summit on Tuesday. That would mean the two leaders have an opportunity to discuss some thorny issues privately with no cameras in the room, such as what to do about Ukraine and the repercussions, the fate of those who had Indian nationality and were absorbed into the Russian Army.
A couple of weeks after sailing to Italy for the G7 Summit outreach event, Modi flew to Russia.
India’s exports are less than $5 billion, so Russia gains greatly from the trade imbalance.
India and Russia have been virtually inseperable allies since the end of the Cold War.
