The Punjab Transport Department has notified Rs40 for the ticket of Orange Line Metro Train. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar gave go-ahead to make the much-delayed mass transit project operational on October 28. The Punjab government had signed the project with the chairman of the Chinese National Development Reforms Commission for construction of the train in Lahore in May 2014.

In a discussion about Orange Line train tickets, which was presided over by Chief Minister Usman Bazdar, sources state Orange Train Authority representatives recommended that the fare be maintained at Rs 30 to Rs 40, contingent upon the citizens’ financial hardships.

The finance department stated that it could not offer significant funding for the project, but the Punjab government recommended that unilateral rent be set at least at Rs 50 based on government budget and subsidies.

According to Treasury officials, an annual subsidy of Rs 6 billion would need to be provided if the rent was hiked to Rs 40. Rent was unilaterally set at Rs 40 per person following consultation.

The Orange Line Metro Train’s tariffs will be adjusted by the Punjabi government. The Orange Line Metro Train’s stop-to-stop fare has been approved by the Punjab Cabinet, and five brackets have been added to the new fare. The orange train from Ali Town to Dera Gujran would cost Rs 40, according to Provincial Transport Minister Muneeb Sultan Cheema. He said that the train fare for 9 to 12 km had been set at Rs 30, but the fare from 0 to 4 km would be Rs 20 and the fare for 5 to 8 km would be Rs 25. The minister announced that a fixed ticket of Rs 35 will cover 13 to 16 km.
